Continuing our Sunday hiking kick, Julian and I decided to try something out of the "norm" for us. So, we took a trip to Tai Tam Reservoir which is only a short 15 minute cab ride away from Happy Valley.
This hike is perfect for beginners, because it's relatively flat the whole way around. The views of the surrounding hillside, the bridges, and the dam all make for nice views different from the more advanced Hong Kong hikes. We hiked all the way past Repulse Bay, which we could see far away in the distance. I would recommend this hike for families, especially those with young kids!
After walking for an hour and a half, we came across a fork in the road where we decided to head towards a lake with paddle boats. We were going to try our luck at feeding the fish! We bought a loaf of bread and boarded a paddle boat (for a very, very cheap price) only to find out that the fish were hiding. Either that, or there were no fish anymore. After all, Julian had not been there since he was a kid. We did see a family of turtles, but to my disappointment no fish.
The paddle boating was an unexpectedly intense leg workout. I went through a whole loaf of bread before calling it a day. After, we headed to Mes Amis in Wan Chai to cool off with some drinks. A round of sangria was the best end to the day! The whole hike and paddle boating only lasted about 4 and a half hours. This half-day hike is easy enough, and gives you time to spend the rest of your day running errands or doing other Sunday activities.
